The recycling process starts with shredding the aluminium into small pieces, which are then melted in a furnace at temperatures around 660°C (1220°F). During melting, impurities such as paint and coatings are removed, usually through a process called fluxing. The molten aluminium is then poured into moulds to form ingots or other shapes, depending on the intended use.
